Show the Luv
We’re excited to invite you to:
“Show the Luv”
A special community event where schools, churches, old age homes, and Voice of the Child (VOC) Centres come together to celebrate VOICES and Care on
February 14, 2025.
This event is for everyone!
It’s a chance to support children, connect with others, and make happy memories!

Project Overwiew:
“Show the Luv” on a collaborative effort where children, supported by local schools, churches, old age homes, and VOC centres, bake and ice cupcakes. The baking will be handled by parents, VOC volunteers, ACVV, or community volunteers and the children will engage in icing the cupcakes and writing their voices on red papercut hearts, pinned with a toothpick on the cupcake. Parents can contribute by buying cupcake ingredients from Checkers, which may also provide colouring pens and printing materials.
Exciting Prizes to be Won for the most Creatively Iced Cupcakes!
How to Start the “Show the Luv” Project:
Here’s a simplified version:
- **Be the Leader**
– Schools, churches, old age homes, or VOC centres can start planning this event.
– Work with local groups or volunteers to get more people involved.
**Get Supplies Ready**
– Use paper hearts or printed hearts for VOC messages.
– Set up a space at the school, church, or community hall for the cupcake decorating.
– Parents can help by buying ingredients from Checkers, which might also provide colouring pens and printed materials.
**Plan for the Day**
– Arrange where kids and elders can get together.
– Encourage everyone to share stories and laugh.
**Use the KIDZ Reset Box and “I want to tell you’’ Books**
– While decorating, the ‘’KIDZ RESET ‘’box will be there to support children’s emotional needs. VOC staff or trained volunteers will lead activities to help kids express their feelings and learn resilience.
– The box can also help kids discuss issues like bullying or stress .
**Keep the Impact Going**
– Post pictures and stories from the event on Facebook and other social platforms to inspire others.
– Add KIDZ RESET and VOC activities and emotional support practices into schools.
– Plan follow-up sessions to keep supporting kids emotionally.
**Why This Matters**
**Bringing People Together:** This event strengthens relationships between kids, parents, and elders.
**Emotional Support:** It gives kids a safe space to express their feelings and feel supported.
**Creating Happy Memories:** It’s a day of joy that will be remembered long after Valentine’s Day is over.
Key Impact of VOC (Voice of the Child):
- 53 trained VOC helpers: Family Assist has trained 40 people to be Voice of the Child (VOC) Practitioners. These professionals know how to speak up for children and make sure their voices are heard in family and legal matters. This training helps them create safe, child-friendly environments where children’s opinions and feelings are respected. This means better decisions are made in family matters that put the well-being of children first.
- 4 VOC centres creating safe spaces for children: We have opened four VOC centres across South Africa where children can freely talk about their feelings. These centers help kids express themselves safely, with the support of skilled professionals. These centres are endorsed by three top universities, which means they are trusted and recognized for their important work.
- Over 300 families supported and over 1,000 children helped: Our approach has already made a big difference, supporting over 300 families and empowering more than 1,000 children. By giving children a place where they feel safe to share their thoughts and feelings, we help families make better decisions that care for everyone involved.
- Growing online training for new helpers: We are training more and more people through our online program. This training is growing quickly because more people want to learn how to help children in family matters. This means there are more trained professionals ready to help families and children across South Africa.
